Nancy Roberts has developed techniques for dyeing machine knitted fabric to create self-striping yarns. Why machine knit and dye yarn, only to unravel and knit it again? Dyeing in the fabric, unlike dyeing a skein, produces a yarn with longer repeats of color, which means in turn that a single color can circle a sweater or sock many times before merging into a new color or shade. Using this method, we can knit a Fair Isle sweater without disrupting the flow of hand knitting with frequent yarn changes and without having to endure the tedium of securing the ends of separately dyed skeins of yarn.

Two pre-knitted sock or hat blanks (100 gm) with row markings to facilitate stripe matching on a pair of socks. Available in either sport weight merino wool or superwash wool/nylon.
Weavers and lace knitters will delight in the bombyx silk blanks available in two yarn sizes: of 12/2 silk (430 yards) or 20/2 silk (715 yds). Other yarn blanks available upon request.
Plastic tubing grips most sizes of hand knitting needles and allows you to slide live stitches off needles without risk of dropping and running. While knitting is in progress, you can check garment fit by spreading stitches across the tubing. Tubing may also be used as a stitch holder. When ready to knit again, stitches slide easily back onto the knitting needles. Tubing works with straight, circular, or double-pointed needles.
