MACHINE KNITTING TO DYE FOR
Fiber Arts Studio
Machine Knitting to Dye For offers classes, knit blanks for dyeing, yarn dyeing
kits, dyeing supplies, undyed yarns, knitting machines and, hopefully, inspiration
to hand knitters, machine knitters, crocheters, felters and weavers who want to
create their own self-striping yarns.
Why machine knit and dye yarn, only to unravel and knit it again?
Dyeing in the fabric, unlike dyeing a skein, produces a yarn
with longer repeats of color, which means in turn that a
single color can circle the circumference of a sweater or
sock many times before merging into a new color or shade.
Using this method, we can knit a Fair Isle sweater without
disrupting the flow of hand knitting with frequent yarn
changes and without having to endure the tedium of
securing the ends of separately dyed skeins of yarn.
Other benefits:
Fewer ends to weave in

Control over color repeats

Seams match up automatically and are less bulky
