Mid-Gauge Cardigan Pattern

This basic cardigan can be knit on any mid-gauge knitting machine: LK-150, Silver Reed 160/860, Brother 350, or the like (a bulky machine may produce proper gauge at a lower tension).   Knit in a DK weight yarn (1125-1350 yards per pound), it has has a short-rowed front for a stylish slant up from the bottom edge.  The front opening is also V-slanted and trimmed in a wide 2-row garter stitch band that lies flat without any ruffling.    The pattern comes in four sizes: small, medium, large and extra-large.. All are included, but are written separately for ease in reading.  You can follow the word-by-word written instructions, or the row-by-row charts which indicate decreases, increases and needles to hold for short-rowing.

The garter rows can me machine knit using a garter bar or knit by hand.   If you’re new to the garter bar, you’ll be an expert after completing this sweater!  It may look a little daunting, but the band has only 24 stitches, which makes garter bar flips much easier.  If you don’t have a mid-gauge garter bar, they are available from www.kriskrafter.com.
